The first offshore production plant for synthetic fuels was opened in the German government's flagship hydrogen project H2Mare. Off-grid, modular, and ocean-ready: The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and its partners plan to produce synthetic fuels from wind energy, seawater, and ambient air on a floating platform in the H2Mare project PtX-Wind. A corresponding modular plant has been installed on a barge and is ready for operation in Bremerhaven. This year, it will produce fuel directly at sea for the first time off the island of Heligoland.
