Hydrogen carbon accounting tool

The tool was developed under the ISA–ADB initiative as part of Phase 2 of the project ‘Ecosystem Readiness Assessment for Production and Utilisation of Green Hydrogen’.
This interactive tool facilitates the assessment of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from hydrogen production using various feedstocks (e.g. coal, natural gas, biomass, water) and production pathways (e.g. gasification, gasification with carbon capture, pyrolysis, electrolysis). It supports project developers and policymakers in analysing emissions profiles, enabling evaluation of subsidy eligibility and formulation of policy support mechanisms. Scope 3 and life cycle emissions are excluded, given their project-specific complexity.
Outputs are generated based on user-defined assumptions across key parameters:

  1. Hydrogen Production Pathway: Selection of the intended production method (e.g. gasification, electrolysis, with or without carbon capture).
  2. Feedstock: Choice of applicable feedstocks for hydrogen generation.
  3. Energy Content: User-defined calorific values of selected feedstocks.
  4. Emission Intensities: Custom or default emission factors for each feedstock.
  5. Electricity Mix: National or user-defined electricity generation mix (e.g. renewables, coal, nuclear), with default options available.
