Industrial activities account for c. 25% of the world’s GDP and contribute 25% to 30% of the global greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory (Rattle and Taylor, 2023). The reduction of these emissions has been painfully slow due to several factors, notably the high energy intensity of many industrial processes, making transitions non-trivial, and the wide variety of those processes, each requiring bespoke solutions. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution for industrial decarbonisation.
