Fossil hydrogen should have no role in a 1.5 degree world unless methane leakage is solved

The realisation that blue hydrogen is unlikely to play a significant role in decarbonisation became clearer this week when COP28 president-designate Sultan al-Jaber told the Financial Times that oil and gas companies will be asked to commit to a target of “near zero” emissions of methane across their entire value chain by 2030.
