French manufacturer McPhy will supply 80MW of electrolysers to the HyLion pilot project in Scotland that plans to produce 45,000 tonnes of e-methanol derived from green hydrogen annually from 2028.
The CO2 required to produce the methanol will be captured from nearby whisky production and E.ON’s 44MW Steven’s Croft biomass power plant just outside the town of Lockerbie, where the HyLion project will be built.
Two offtakers are already lined up: German e-fuels producer P1 Fuels and Norwegian offshore wind installer Cadeler, which will use the methanol as a base chemical and a shipping fuel, respectively.
